The Bloomberg Arts Engagement Initiative

From June 2013, five cultural centres will receive from the Bloomberg Arts Engagement Initiative 15 million dollars to improve the accessibility to their museums through the use of mobile technology, including 3D imaging and GPS. The five centres to receive funding are the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, The New York Botanical Garden, and the Museum of Modern Art. The Royal Ontario Museum launches a game jam to animate their exhibitions

In an exciting pilot project, the ROM, in partnership with Gamercamp and the University of Toronto, is opening its doors to game developers for a three-day game jam August 9-11, 2013 to create digital games to animate the exhibits in the museum. The experience continues onward: completed games will get play-tested at the ROM in mid-October and will officially premiere at Gamercamp in November Continue reading

In 2009, the Prado Museum selected 14 of its most important paintings to be displayed in Google Earth and Google Maps at extremely high resolution, with the largest displayed at 14,000 megapixels. Beside this, an online virtual gallery available in the website is a valuable resource for visitors: over 1.000 works are easily accessible with full description in English and more than 5.000 works are available in Spanish version.
