The project coordinator prof. Fred Truyen and his assistant Sofie Taes were invited for a lecture at the National Museum of Finland in Helsinki, during the Photo Archive Days. Finland is not represented (yet!) in the EuropeanaPhotography consortium but the event was useful to start a dialogue and relationships with representatives from the Finnish archives and museums. EAGLE consortium recently met in Pisa for discussing and proceeding towards the project’s next steps. Next appointments for the EAGLE project are on the 18-20 February 2014, in Ljubljana, joining the Plenary Meeting with Workshops, Training, and a Public Event. Still to be confirmed as for dates and venues, the first EAGLE International Conference will also take place in early autumn 2014. Continue reading

This is a standard-based web 2.0 demonstrative platform that enables search in parallel in different online repositories of linked data. The users can search across the tens of millions of resources contained in the CHAIN-REDS Knowledge Base as well as in the Europeana, Cultura Italia and Isidore repositories. This event was aimed at anyone interested in epigraphy (digital or non-digital) as well as to the establishment and diffusion of general best current practices for digital editions. It covered many aspects of digital technology applied to inscriptions, from content to management and networking. It was composed of 3 workshops (Harmonization and interoperability of Inscriptions, Translations of Inscriptions, Intellectual Property Rights) and a photographic workshop on shooting high quality images for online publication and research. Intermediate objective is to deliver to Europeana a huge number of metadata, in order to publish a first batch of images to witness the history of Europe and the art of photography in the period 1839-1939. The images are supposed to be on line and accessible to everyone by early 2014, and for this reason EuropeanaPhotography content providers are working closely to the technical deadlines to allow this result. Hosted by the Irish Presidency of the European Union and Linked Heritage partner the Local Government Management Agency, the conference attracted an international audience of cultural heritage and memory institutions and numerous representatives of Irish local and national memory institutions. the conference featured a video message from Commissioner Neelie Kroes, who unfortunately was unable to attend the Conference in person. Commissioner Kroes emphasized the importance of an open approach to information sharing, and highlighted the role of Europeana. Continue reading

The Polish Collections in Europeana conference was organized in the medieval city of Toruń on October 18-19, 2012 by the International Centre for Information Management Systems and Services ICIMSS.
