Civic Epistemologies was presented in a panel session entitled “From Digitisation to Preservation, Creative Re-use of Cultural Content and Citizen Participation” at the DIGITAL HERITAGE 2015 conference in Granada (28 September – 2 October 2015). The panel, taking place on 1 October 2015, offered an overview of initiatives and EU projects Europeana Space, RICHES, Civic Epistemologies, PREFORMA, and Photoconsortium. Relevant speakers fostered a debate to understand the path towards a more advanced society, that makes use of the full potential of digital technologies to foster cultural and societal progress. weLand Association is a cultural NGO founded in Asti, South Piedmont (Italy), in August 2012. Its aim is to develop a regional network of individuals and groups interested in aggregating, sharing and reusing open data for GLAMs, education institutions and tourism stakeholders. The idea of the association arises from the firm belief that innovation (and so the elements which innovation is generated by, culture and creativity) should take into account a bottom-up engagement of the community, in order to fully realise its potential and to become a real driver of social and economic development. Organised by the Civic Epistemologies project in the framework of the EGI Conference 2015, in collaboration with EGI.eu and IBERGRID, this session will present to the EGI scientific communities platforms for and use cases of citizen science, covering the wide range of potential capabilities (such as desktop computing and pattern recognition) usable in a huge variety of disciplines, from biodiversity to digital social sciences and humanities.
