Taking place in Oxford on 17-18 September 2015, live theatre performance “Before the Tempest” imagines what life was like on the island for Miranda and Prospero as a prequel to Shakespeare’s classic tale of love, magic and bad weather. The play is the result of this year’s Hidden Spire, which brings together a team of professional artists to make a show from scratch alongside people who are homeless. Part of the “Art In Crisis” festival, Hidden Spire is a partnership between Arts at the Old Fire Station and Crisis Skylight Oxford. Its activities were case study of EU project Civic Epistemologies. A crucial topic that is addressed and researched within the RICHES consortium is co-creation, being the practice where different stakeholders with different expertise come together collaboratively to create future-oriented perspectives, enrich cultural heritage (CH) experiences and build relations with networks that are closely invested in an institution’s collection. This paper is based on preliminary research findings, where RICHES consortium gives a short overview of the potential benefits of co-creative methods and current practices in the CH sector and offers a number of suggestions to stimulate co-creation in CH on a strategic level.
