Some of our yesterdays: Europeana Photography @ British Library

Organized by the Royal Anthropological Institute and the British Museum, this gathering of professionals from either the artistic/creative field or the academic world, offered the opportunity to anyone active at the crossroads of both disciplines to showcase an oeuvre or project to the conference attendants. In te Europeana Photography booth, the accent was on the project’s future activities: the upcoming Belgian production of the expo (Leuven, 30 January – 30 March 2015), as well as the upcoming future platform that is springing out of the project after the end of the EC funding period. A joint creative workshop about digital photography

Guided by prof. Fred Truyen in his double role of Europeana Photography coordinator and Europeana Space pilot leader, the participants met in the Museum room of the Faculty of Arts at KU Leuven. This joint workshop is just a first step in a close cooperation between the two projects, Europeana Photography and Europeana Space, and a concrete action for searching new business opportunities involving digital cultural heritage. All Our Yesterdays, a huge success for the photographic exhibition!

The flux of visitors at Palazzo Lanfranchi was more or less continuous since the opening (11th April), but a boom of visits was registered on the 17th May during the European Night of the Museums. In this occasion the exhibition was open till midnight and almost 800 visitors crowded the vintage rooms of the palace where the photographs are hosted, in a truly charming environment. Europeana Space Scenarios: development of Pilots in the six thematic areas

Europeana Space project started its life on February with a successfull kick-off meeting in Leuven. Every Work Packages group are developing initiatives and meetings to discuss about their aims and objectives. On 19th and 20th March, the partners involved in the WP4 had their first meeting in Brussel, hosted at the iMinds – Vrije Universiteit Brussel offices. Continue reading


Europeana Space Kick-off meeting

Beside the project members, participants in the meeting were the EU Officer Marcel Waletet and the deputy director of Europeana Foundation Harry Verwayen. The kick-off meeting was already the place to start the organization of the first public event of Europeana Space: the appointment is in Venice, in October 2014 with a great opening conference organized by the hosting partner Università Ca’ Foscari. All Our Yesterdays… welcome to Pisa!

The location of the exhibition is Palazzo Lanfranchi, a very prestigious exhibition centre, in an historical palace in the center of Pisa, on the Lungarno Galilei (the embankment of river Arno). Each photograph displayed in Palazzo Lanfranchi is printed with the most advanced printing techniques and on a very pure, cotton-based paper that enhances the photograph at its best. In order to attract the citizens to visit the exhibition and to engage the visitors, Collection Days are organized to digitize family photos and albums related to the timeframe of the project. All Our Yesterdays, story of a narrative

The great event of Europeana Photography project is the result of collective effort from all the partners of this extraordinary consortium. An important role in the direction of the scientific project behind the exhibition was played by the project coordinator KU Leuven, in charge of coordinating the selection of images together with the content providers, and of developing themes and narrative of the exhibition and the catalogue book. Grand opening event is taking place in Pisa (Italy) 11th April – 2nd June 2014, in the historical setting of Palazzo Lanfranchi, organized by Promoter. Continue reading


Europeana Photography in Marseille

Sofie Taes of KU Leuven gave a presentation of EuropeanaPhotography during the panel session of EU projects at Digital Heritage 2013. The workshop took place on the 29th October and included representatives of several EU projects, who delivered interesting speeches. It was an occasion to discuss and present the project to colleagues, experts and professionals in the cultural heritage, to foster reciprocal awareness and cooperation. Continue reading
