EUDAT 2013 conference in Rome

The EUDAT 2nd conference held on 28-30 Oct 2013 in Rome, was the ideal setting to showcase these services and outline the roll out phase as well as to offer hands-on training. Discussions on the new set of EUDAT services were also a feature of the conference with semantic annotation, dynamic data & workflows addressed, a natural follow on to the Working Group discussions that were held in Barcelona in Sept. 2013. EUDAT project, the vision of a Collaborative Data Infrastructure

“EUDAT will fill an important gap in the current European e-Infrastructure landscape,” said Dr. Kimmo Koski, Project Coordinator. “We aim to develop a generic infrastructure for scientific data management that can used by a diversity of research communities and existing infrastructures.” EUDAT project provides multidisciplinary collaboration, being represented in it different areas of research: linguistics, earth sciences, climate sciences, environmental sciences, and biological and medical sciences. Other communities have joined EUDAT as associate members, representing 15 research disciplines across all major fields of science. Continue reading

The main themes about “Infrastructures in the Digital Age: the Data Challenge” and “e-Infrastructure commons” were discussed in two tracks, including speeches by very important and international experts. All roads lead to Rome

The 3-day EUDAT conference, 28-30 October 2013 – Rome, Italy, addresses new data challenges – the case for cross-disciplinary science and services – in view of the EC’s forthcoming Horizon 2020 programme. International e-infrastructure cooperation and collaboration benefits are high on the agenda, with a particular focus on the recently launched RDA. The community-driven initiatives collaborating with EUDAT will also take an active role in the interactive discussions through associated workshops taking EUDAT synergies to new levels. The need for novel more efficient and affordable solutions for digital preservation is increasing in the Social Science and Humanities. The workshop presented the advancements in the state of the art, to understand which could be the benefits offered, in particular to the Digital Cultural Heritage sector, by the new technologies and e-infrastructures. The main objective of the e-Infrastructure initiative is to support the creation of a political, technological and administrative framework for an easy and cost-effective shared use of distributed electronic resources across Europe.
