From 30 September to 3 October, the first edition of the Bologna Design Week is being held under the auspices of Municipality of Bologna, Emilia Romagna Region and CERSAIE. Thanks to the initiative, for the first time cultural, production and creative excellences of the territory convene in an integrated communication system. The Emilian centre will become a further attraction hub in the Italian design system, through a rich programme providing exhibitions, workshops, talks and business meetings organised in the framework of 8 thematic itineraries. “Cultural Heritage Counts for Europe: Towards a European Index for Cultural Heritage” is a two-year project funded by the EU Culture Programme (2007-2013). Recently concluded, the project aimed to raise greater awareness on the multiple benefits of cultural heritage and present policy recommendations for tapping into heritage’s full potential. The Cultural Heritage Counts for Europe project has resulted in a nearly 300 page report that provides compelling evidence of the value of cultural heritage and its impact on Europe’s economy, culture, society and the environment. On 18 June 2015, the countryside of Valdera (Pisa, Italy) was seat of an interesting international meeting, focussed on the role of food as element of the European cultural heritage (CH) and aimed at discussing how the changes within our society may have an impact on the wine & food traditions of a territory. Last month EBN welcomed ADDICT – Creative Industries Portugal, the Creative Industries Agency in Portugal. ADDICT is a non-profit association created in 2008. The report “Getting cultural heritage to work for Europe”, by the Expert Group on Cultural Heritage established under the Horizon 2020 Work Programme 2014, provides the rationale for setting a renewed European Research & Innovation policy agenda on cultural heritage. It outlines the general framework about cultural heritage in Europe and the contribution it can make towards smarter, more inclusive and more sustainable development.
