Zamani Project: report from Meroe, Sudan

Led by Prof. Heinz Rüther, since 2004 the Zamani project has been documenting African historical sites with the aim of creating accurate digital records for future generations. In March 2015 the Zamani partners went back to Sudan, where they had previously been to document the temple complex of Musawwarat es-Sufra. Objective of the new mission was to digitally record the Pyramids of Meroe (Begarawiyah), recognised as UNESCO World Heritage. Continue reading

Games Development Tools for DCH

As part of an ongoing digital heritage project, two students on the Games Design BA (Hons) at The Hull School of Art & Design in the UK are currently using the Unreal4 development kit to recreating 1960’s Whitefriargate (Kingston Upon Hull) and the surrounding area in digital 3D. They will be showcasing this project as part of their end of year show and at other external venues around Hull (UK City of Culture 2017). The project aims at engaging digital media students in deeper research through social and industrial heritage interpretation, whilst extending their understanding of what their increasing skill sets can offer in terms of fulfilling roles in industry.
