Topic: digital preservation
This workshop, run as part of the Digital Humanities at Oxford Summer School 2015 (20 -24 July 2015), will enable participants to experience crowdsourcing in microcosm all the way from project conception to launch to data analysis. It will be of particular interest to academics, librarians and museum professionals who see the potential for crowdsourcing to expedite data extraction from non-machine readable collections. The workshop will be run by Dr Victoria Van Hyning, Digital Humanities Project Lead at Zooniverse.org (University of Oxford), and Sarah de Haas, a technical specialist from Google with a background in humanities. In Bari, from Thursday 24 September to Friday 25 September 2015 the sixth EAGLE international event is being held, under the title “Off the Beaten Track. Epigraphy at the Borders”. Aim of the meeting is to discuss issues and raise questions about encoding inscriptions different from those labelled as standard, even in languages other than Greek and Latin. Organisers intend to address peculiarities that are due to material supports, executing techniques, graphic shapes, non-alphabetical signs and generally visual components relating to the epigraphic texts. The fourth NALIS Forum (Sofia, 12 May 2015) concluded successfully, attended by many international experts from leading libraries and library networks, museums, universities and cultural organisations. Among the special guests, delegates of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture. Antonella Fresa of Promoter SRL took part in the conference as invited speaker. Lecturers (from Europe and USA) shared their experience in local and global collaboration (not only within the library community, but also within the IT community) in the framework of projects involving the digitisation of cultural heritage, creative re-use of digitised cultural contents and citizen participation. On 12th of May 2015, Sònia Oliveras from the Municipal Archive of Girona presented PREFORMA at the Study Visit of the Leonardo da Vinci Project in Girona.
