The PREFORMA project is running a webinar series throughout September to present the three conformance checkers that are being developed for electronic documents, still images and audiovisual files. The webinars will: introduce the PREFORMA project, update participants on the current status of the conformance checkers, demonstrate the software, outline future plans, and give examples of how the community can contribute, or provide feedback. The 2014-2016 Annual Report has been published by Open Preservation Foundation, looking back on the activities and achievements undertaken by the Foundation over the past two years. veraPDF, one of the three open source projects funded in the framework in PREFORMA, is considered a crucial technical success by providing the definitive implementation of a PDF/A validation tool, which was released in version 0.14 earlier this year. We are pleased to announce the latest release of veraPDF, the definitive, open source PDF/A validator. Version 0.14 features Transparency and Unicode character map validation in PDF/A-2 levels B and U. This is the first release of the final design phase which began on 19 April following the PREFORMA Project EC review at the Open Source Workshop. veraPF’s latest software is now available for download in the Open Source Portal. The veraPDF validation engine implements the PDF/A specification using formalisations of each requirement in PDF/A-1, PDF/A-2 and PDF/A-3. The wiki determines each rule used by the software and provides details on the error(s) triggering a failure of the rule. Continue reading
The latest version of veraPDF is now available for download in the PREFORMA Open Source Portal. veraPDF is building the definitive, file-format validator for all parts and conformance levels of ISO 19005 (PDF/A). This version contains several feature enhancements (conformance checker, command line, and test corpus) as well as some bug fixes. This marks the end of the PREFORMA project’s first re-design phase. Between 20 and 30 January 2016, a team of representatives of the PREFORMA project visited the three consortia that are currently working in the prototyping phase: veraPDF, Easy Innova and MediaArea.net.
