On 18 June 2015, the countryside of Valdera (Pisa, Italy) was seat of an interesting international meeting, focussed on the role of food as element of the European cultural heritage (CH) and aimed at discussing how the changes within our society may have an impact on the wine & food traditions of a territory. Results of this workshop, held in the framework of the RICHES project, will merge into a public document, constituting the base of a policy brief addressed towards the European Commission. This workshop, run as part of the Digital Humanities at Oxford Summer School 2015 (20 -24 July 2015), will enable participants to experience crowdsourcing in microcosm all the way from project conception to launch to data analysis. It will be of particular interest to academics, librarians and museum professionals who see the potential for crowdsourcing to expedite data extraction from non-machine readable collections. The workshop will be run by Dr Victoria Van Hyning, Digital Humanities Project Lead at Zooniverse.org (University of Oxford), and Sarah de Haas, a technical specialist from Google with a background in humanities. Two days of testing allowed the pilot developers to gain insight into what its target audience thinks of the two applications developed withing the dance Pilot, using a “think aloud” method, and offered the E-Space Dance Pilot valuable information. The designers are now moving into the implementation of phase of the feedback and look forward to sharing the tools with those Dance Hackathon Participants, scheduled to take place in late Autumn 2015.
