A digital replica of a 14th Century Chinese map of great historical importance will be on show at the Iziko Museums of South Africa. The museum is to host the World Design Capital 2014 exhibition. Framed 2.0 is a new Kickstarter project by FRM. Though it may appear to work similarly to other digital screens that project artwork for home use, such as Artkick, Framed 2.0 it incorporates features that set it apart from most other digital frames on the market. The frame is integrated with smartphones and capable of showing both static and moving images, including GIFs. It also responds to voice commands and gestures. Continue reading

A new interactive digital installation is set to open this year’s Matariki Festival in New Zealand, which celebrates Maori New Year. The installation works through a virtual performer on a digital screen who interacts and responds to viewers’ behaviour as they approach the screen. The artists of the project have stated that traditional dances and battles of the Maori communities and from the Pacific Islands inspired the project. Continue reading
