The core topic of the conference was how to enable a creative re-use of digital cultural content thus unlocking the business potential of cultural heritage and fostering the creation of new jobs and economic growth. A very interested audience almost fulfilled the parterre of the former theater, now conference venue. As a side activity, in the afetrnoon of the second day the registered participants could visit the Venice incubator H-Farm, an inspiring environment for creativity and technology. Continue reading

Digital humanities is understood by Sheffield University to mean the use of technology within arts, heritage and humanities research as both a method of inquiry and a means of dissemination. As such, Europeana Photography is a very concrete example of the use of technologies to enhance cultural heritage. Continue reading
Guided by prof. Fred Truyen in his double role of Europeana Photography coordinator and Europeana Space pilot leader, the participants met in the Museum room of the Faculty of Arts at KU Leuven. This joint workshop is just a first step in a close cooperation between the two projects, Europeana Photography and Europeana Space, and a concrete action for searching new business opportunities involving digital cultural heritage. The project coordinator prof. Fred Truyen and his assistant Sofie Taes were invited for a lecture at the National Museum of Finland in Helsinki, during the Photo Archive Days. Finland is not represented (yet!) in the EuropeanaPhotography consortium but the event was useful to start a dialogue and relationships with representatives from the Finnish archives and museums.
