The UNESCO PERSIST Project has recently launched the UNESCO/PERSIST Guidelines for the selection of digital heritage for long-term preservation. The Guidelines, drafted with a group of seven authors from the libraries, archives and museums world, aim to provide a starting point for institutions (museums, archives and libraries) to draft their own digital heritage selection policy. PREFORMA’s proposals for a workshop (“Quality standards for preserving digital cultural heritage”) and a talk (“Status of CELLAR: Update from an IETF Working Group for Matroska and FFV1”) have been both accepted at IPRES 2016, the longest standing digital preservation conference in the world, bringing together key theorists, researchers and practitioners to explore the latest trends, innovations, policies and practices in digital preservation. We are pleased to announce the latest release of veraPDF, the definitive, open source PDF/A validator. Version 0.14 features Transparency and Unicode character map validation in PDF/A-2 levels B and U. This is the first release of the final design phase which began on 19 April following the PREFORMA Project EC review at the Open Source Workshop. After the redesign phase, a new version of the DPF Manager is available. Version 2.0 includes many new functionalities and improvements and is now ready to be downloaded on the PREFORMA Open Source Portal.
