Digital modelling techniques have become a prevailing feature of media society. Research, education, cultural heritage and entertainment industry basically rely on the representation and visualization of real-world objects through binary coded models. Highly effective new ways of engineering, construction and documentation have been introduced for purposes of preservation, information-processing and analysis. Networked database systems, 2d- and 3d-visualization models, mixed reality applications and interactive multimodal approaches expand the outreach and contribute to the formation of a global and participatory information culture.
