Cinemagraphs are a way to catch those precious seconds of life when you wish to stop time and enjoy wind playing in your hair, dust sparkling in the sun, smoke from last night’s festive fire. All that fades so quickly you might miss it in a blink of an eye. A little more than photography, still, rare. I find it romantic…
So Daria Khoroshavina, 26 year old photographer from Russia, give us back in poetry the sense of cinemagraphs, photographs in which a minor and repeated movement occurs. They are commonly produced by taking a series of photo or video shot and then by composing the parts into a seamless loop of sequential frames through an image editing software. As a result, part of the subject is perceived as moving, in contrast with the stillness of the rest of the image.
Daria has been shooting for more than 5 years, she is self-taught and proud of it. «I love to experiment with styles and techniques; sometimes experiments grow into little projects: that’s the case of kitchen ghosts» Daria tells.
Kitchen ghosts is a food photography blog where Daria and her friend Olga take “food photography to the next level”. Here, ingredients and skills come alive as kitchen genies for creating brief instants of delight and magic.
«If I hadn’t been receiving so much positive feedback since the first cinemagraph shoot, I could have never continued. Joe Panker from Come Alive Images was one of the firsts to notice my work and encourage me to make more and now I’m always on it. I still do all kinds of photography, I love portraiture and want to continue to experiment and try things, but I’m happy that something as unusual for me as food photography has grown into such a lovely project and it is here to stay»
I want my style to be subtle and metaphoric, a mesh of the simplest preciousness of the human body with the infinite universe of the mind…
