EC President Barroso hosts the 2nd Innovation Convention

Innovation Covention2014On 10-11 March 2014, in Brussels, the European Commission President José Manuel Barroso will host the 2nd Innovation Convention. It will take place in SQUARE Brussels Meeting Centre, which is located in the Mont des Arts, just a short walk away from the major cultural and historical places of interest in the capital of Europe.

The Convention is an essential part of the Innovation Union flagship initiative, the European Union strategy which aims to create an innovation-friendly environment that makes it easier for great ideas to be turned into products and services that will bring our economy growth and jobs. The Innovation Union plan contains over thirty actions points, which aim to three main objectives:

  • make Europe into a world-class science performer;

  • remove obstacles to innovation – like expensive patenting, market fragmentation, slow standard-setting and skills shortages – which currently prevent ideas getting quickly to market;

  • revolutionise the way public and private sectors work together, notably through Innovation Partnerships between the European institutions, national and regional authorities and business.

European-Commission-Logo-fond-blancBrussels' Innovation Convention will bring together a unique gathering of world-class researchers, visionary people and innovators, including CEOs from some of Europe's top companies, young innovators and net-entrepreneurs. It will provide a platform to debate and inform policies that will contribute towards the building of a research and innovation eco-system in Europe that can support this objective.
