A hub to bring together creativity and production

From 30 September to 3 October, the first edition of the Bologna Design Week is being held under the auspices of Municipality of Bologna, Emilia Romagna Region and CERSAIE. Thanks to the initiative, for the first time cultural, production and creative excellences of the territory convene in an integrated communication system. The Emilian centre will become a further attraction hub in the Italian design system, through a rich programme providing exhibitions, workshops, talks and business meetings organised in the framework of 8 thematic itineraries. FutureEverything celebrated its 20th anniversary. For the last two decades the festival has brought people together to imagine, shape and question the vision of a truly participatory society. A belief in the emancipatory and creative potential of new technologies runs throughout digital culture. It is found both in the open source community and in the rhetoric of Silicon Valley start-ups. In recent years, the contradictions in this vision have come to the surface. The digital age has brought a collision of positives and negatives. This year was an ideal opportunity for FutureEverything to hit pause on its headlong rush into the future, to reflect on the consequences of the past decades and the prospects for the decades to come. On 27-28 November 2014, in Amsterdam, the European Creative Industries Alliance (ECIA) presented and discussed ten policy recommendations following their three years of work. The recommendations are described and supported with concrete cases in the ECIA final report.
