Welcome to the next JPEG, MPEG and VCEG Meeting!

The next JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group), MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group) and VCEG (Video Coding Experts Group) meeting, hosted by the Poznań University of Technology, will take place in Warsaw on 22-26 June 2015, at the Marriott Hotel Warsaw. The groups are in charge of the development of international standards for still image coding, video coding and compression, decompression, processing and coded representation of moving pictures plus audio. World Day for Audiovisual Heritage 2014

The World Day for Audiovisual Heritage is a commemoration of the adoption, in 1980 by the 21st General Conference, of the Recommendation for the Safeguarding and Preservation of Moving Images. The World Day provides an occasion to raise general awareness of the need to take urgent measures and to acknowledge the importance of audiovisual documents. The California Institute of the Arts’ annual Digital Arts an Technology Expo, which is held on 8th May 2014, is set to showcase some of the most creative concepts for digital art this year. Many have cited the event as one of the best ways to gain access to upcoming trends in the digital world, due to the fact that the work showcased includes prototypes made by digital art students at the university. Canadian government offers funding to digital festivals in Montreal

The Canadian government has offered financial backing to two major digital arts events in Montreal. The two organisations that received funding are the Biennale internationale d’art numerique (BIAN), now in its second year, and the Elektra Festival, which is now in its 15th year. It has been reported that the funding will go towards concerts, exhibitions and other events related to the two festivals, with the special aim of attracting and enhancing collaboration with young people.
