Lucia Ruggiero, correspondent from United Kingdom and Spain
Originally from London, she is currently studying English Literature and Spanish at the University of Manchester. She’s interested in experimental creativity and multimedia research, with a special focus on independent cinema and contemporary arts, and she is our correspondent from the UK, who will be following events and news related to digital culture.
The vocabulary has been completed in 12 languages and consists of over 500 concepts in three facets –photographic technique, photographic practice and keywords – that are structured in a multifaceted, hierarchical way. Discussions are on-going with other projects, in particular Linked Heritage, for improvement and further development of the EuropeanaPhotography Vocabulary, that can be a starting point for other valuable multilingual tools to enrich digitization activities (both for photography and for other cultural heritage). As digital technology evolves, 3D data is increasingly preferred as a method of preserving cultural heritage artifacts. It provides an easy way to get in touch with them and significantly reduces the need for physical storage space, offering to museums a portable and accessible platform to exchange information and to researchers the possibility to easily browse and review the materials. Multilingualism is crucial especially in a European context. The seminar has presented one of the achievement of the Linked Heritage Work Package 3 with the Terminology Management Platform (TMP) and brought together other European and national initiatives creating and developping multilingual terminology resources or tools for managing or reusing them. The guide’s multiple functions allow the user to view and collect cultural and administrative information in all the country prefectures.
The user can access the Cultural Guide via the Hellenic national cultural portal “Odysseus”, either through web browsers or mobile browsers. Additionally, in selected museums (e.g National Archaeological Museum) the visitor has the opportunity to access the Cultural Guide through touch screens. Continue reading
HM hipix (c) has enabled art books to be made available in ebook format for the first time, in high quality that exceeds 100 megapixels in a new application called the Hipix Artistbook Application.
