International conference Access, Use, Re-use: Unlocking the potential of online cultural content

As an event of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, this one day conference tooke place in St. George’s Hall, Dublin Castle. The conference was organised by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government.

The focus of the conference was on developing new access to online cultural content to support education, cultural tourism, creative industries and to provide creative new ways for people to participate in their cultural heritage. Speakers included keynote speaker Lord Puttnam, Digital Champion for Ireland; Mr. Javier Hernandez-Ros, Head of Unit, Access to Information, Information Society and Media DG – European Commission; Professor Sara de Freitas, Serious Games Institute, Coventry University; Ms. Rossella Caffo, Director, Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo Unico delle Biblioteche Italiane; and Professor Jonathan Drori, Thoughtsmith and former Head of Commissioning, BBC Online.

The conference included a showcase for EU FP7 projects and national cultural institutions to display digital content initiatives and collections.
