NET4SOCIETY, the network of National Contact Points for research in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities is organising a transnational conference which will take place in Athens at the National Hellenic Research Foundation on the 26th and 27th February 2014 on the occasion of the Greek EU Council presidency.
Entitled “Achieving Impact: Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities (SSH) in Horizon 2020”, the conference will aim to highlight the important role SSH has to play, through its relevance and impact, in achieving the targets set out in Europe 2020 – the EU’s growth strategy for the current decade. The conference will also showcase exciting opportunities that exist in Horizon 2020 to help prepare the SSH research community for the New EU Programme for Research & Innovation.
During the first day, participants will learn more about the broad framework of the Europe 2020 strategy and how Horizon 2020 supports Innovation. Through practical workshops and panel discussions, the concept of Impact will be explored with a view to encouraging SSH reearchers to become involved in all of the Societal Challenges in Horizon 2020. Attendees will then be able to choose one of three parallel sessions in which to participate and contribute:
- the European Social Model-its Sustainability for Future Generations
- SSH contributions to a competitive Europe-Creativity and Culture
- Making sense of Social Innovation!
During the parallel sessions, the opportunities of Horizon 2020 for the SSH Research & Innovation community in those areas will be examined in the context of four overarching issues:
- Impact: from the end-users’ point of view (benefitting from impact as well as from the researchers’ (achieving impact)
- Integrating the international dimension
- Highlighting a comparative research approach and underlining its added value
The main points covered at the parallel sessions will be presented and discussed in a final plenary session.
On the second day attendees will learn in more detail about the opportunities presented by the Work Programme of the first and second calls for Societal Challenge 6 of Horizon 2020 “Europe in a changing world: inclusive, innovative and reflective societies”. They will also hear about SSH opportunities in other parts of Horizon 2020. In addition, the importance of impact in Horizon 2020 research proposals will be emphasised.
There will then be three parallel sessions based on Horizon 2020 Societal Challenge 6 dedicated to specific topics of the first Work Programme including presentations from the project coordinators and evaluators.
The brokerage event itself will give participants the opportunity to have pre-arranged meetings with other participants to identify possible collaborators in the SSH elements of Horizon 2020.
